Harley Street Medical have released a statement on their website confirming that at this stage, they are not going to remove PIP breast implants fitted by them and that any women with concerns should contact their GP.
In the statement, the costmetic company say that they they conducted 11,837 operations with PIP implants between September 2004 and March 2010 implants in the UK. We have received multiple claims so far from women looking to sue cosmetic companies for the cost of thre removal of PIP implants.
The statement states:
“The advice from the Department of Health continues to be that there is not sufficient evidence to recommend routine implant removal and women who are concerned should speak to their GP. The Department of Health’s expert review has not established if the rupture rate is higher for PIP implants than for other implants. It has also confirmed that there is no evidence of any cancer risk from the materials used.”
However, in a speech to Parliament yesterday, Health Secretary Andrew Lansley said that “providers have legal and, indeed, moral obligations”.
“Those working in the private sector are urged to support in similar fashion. We would hope that implanting surgeons would honour requests for replacement surgery free of surgical charge”.
We have been contact by women who are experiencing problems with the clinics that fitted their implants. If you are looking for advice on how to claim compensation, you can visit our dedicated website here.
